My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

All donations no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated!

In Nov 2012 I am due visit Uganda to carry out volunteer work with the street children of Kampala.  I will be visiting the country with 11 other volunteers and the organisation Retrak.

As part of my fundraising I am participating in a 40mile bike ride from Manchester to Liverpool on 3rd June 2012.

Retrak is a Stockport-based charity working with street children in Africa. They currently have projects in Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya providing vulnerable children with food, medicine, clothing and shelter, but they also go beyond that to help resettle children into loving family environments, either with estranged parents or foster parents. For older children, they provide income generation schemes, enabling them to learn a vocational trade or set up small business to help them break the poverty cycle.

£5 can provide 10 street children with a nutritious meal

£8 can house a street child in a temporary emergency refuge for a month

£22 can provide counselling sessions, helping a child come to terms with what they have experienced on the streets

£40 can pay for a follow-up visit to ensure that an ex-street child’s resettlement to their family is successful

£150 can recruit a foster family for a street child with no family to go home to

To find out more about the amazing work Retrak do for these children please visit their website at www.Retrak.org.
