Story

What is happening at the moment? Continuing the creative theme, I have also started painting people nails for donations. Those who know me will agree that I love painting different designs onto my nails, and so was asked by someone to do theirs in return for a donation! Thank you! And any more customers are welcome :)

Hi :)

My name is Lydia Woolway and this summer between the 1st of July and the 5th of August I am making my way to rural Tanzinia to complete some amazing charity work!

Along with nine other Durham University students, I will be cycling, rag-raiding, cooking, and generally doing mad things to try and raise as much money as possible for the charity 'Future Sense'. This charity works with local communities in deprived areas to improve education, womens empowerment, livlihoods, community development, child care and health care.

The work done by our volunteers is further strengthened by providing financial support to the projects through this foundation. It could be basic resources like infrastructure for schools or grants to build livelihoods. In this way, this chairty is helping to STOP poverty. Every single penny of the £1,200 raised will be going towards a single project which will transform a community, and to add to the excitment we will be out there helping to put it together so we will be able to see what a big difference this has made!

Our specific project is the development and improvement of Olbak primary school, where we will be teaching, which will not only help the children, but help the morale of the teachers which has slowed under the intense pressure of teaching in such deprived conditions. We will also be helping construct a reliable supply of fresh water to the school, and helping to construct and stock a library - after this project the school will be a fully functional, and inspiring place to be!!!

This is a huge sum to raise, and every penny of it is important. I will of course be donating as much as I can from my student loan, as well as doing mad things to try and reach this total, so keep an eye on my page as I will be updating it often! However I would also be grateful for anything you could give - remember, a single sacrifice of a cup of coffee translates into education for hundreds!

Thank you!

Future Sense - http://www.futuresense.co.uk/ourCharity.aspx

DUCK charities - duck.dsu.org.uk/
