Story

Hello, and welcome to my JustGiving page. On October 11th, 2009, I am running the Royal Parks Half-Marathon in London to raise money for Médecins du Monde UK www.mdmuk.org.uk/.

Médecins du Monde was formed in 1980 by 15 doctors who broke away from Médecins Sans Frontières when assisting the Boat People fleeing Vietnam via the South China Sea. Choosing to go beyond the provision of healthcare, these doctors chose to "bear witness" to any obstacles to healthcare or human rights abuses they saw, creating an organisation to lobby for change. Even though health is a human right and new life saving technologies are constantly being introduced, vast inequities still exist and many people go without basic healthcare. Médecins du Monde reports on the stories of vulnerable people who have not been able to gain access to their health system, giving them a voice which may not otherwise be heard. Médecins du Monde UK also provides healthcare services in 60 countries around the world, and to marginalized people in London, such as refugees and asylum seekers.

I’ve been training for the Royal Parks Half-Marathon since July and would greatly appreciate it if you joined me in supporting Médecins du Monde UK. Any amount will help me reach my goal of raising £500.

Thank you so much for your help.
