Story
We are casting care, inhibitions and pinot grigio aside and putting our joints and our Saturday mornings on the line to support the fantastic work of Watford Mencap.
Nine out of ten children and young people with learning disabilities are bullied. Because of their needs, they have very few opportunities to socialise, do activities or have fun out of school. As Mums, we know how difficult it is to bring children up, even without having to deal with the prejudice and casual cruelty that people with learning difficulties face every day.
These families just want to live their lives and make the most of themselves, like every one of us. Watford Mencap helps them to do this by providing a wide range of support, and demonstrating that people with learning disabilities are, given the chance, as valuable a part of society as any other.
Its Children’s Centre welcomes 150 children and young people every year to its clubs and activities, however profound their needs. There is nothing else like this centre for miles around, and it is a lifeline for children and their families. To find out more, follow this link.
Watford Mencap needs to raise £100,000 every year to keep the centre going, so they really need your support. Every £10 we raise can give another child an hour at the Centre. You can see more about Watford Mencap on www.watfordmencap.org.uk.
Less and less help is coming from the government and local councils so please support our efforts and make a donation today..!
