Inspired by the London 2012 games - 2013 is Lynsey's London Games

This year I will run my 4th marathon.

It will be special as it is the 1st time I have run the London race where I have been living for 8 years and (I think) it will be my last marathon as the training has become more and more of a challenge each year both physically and mentally. This never ending winter has definitely not helped my not so young bones keep moving.  

So I thought it was about time I did it for someone else and made my efforts count! 

I chose Macmillan - I have been lucky enough not to have to use their service but know many that have and they have reported fantastic things. I do work in the health service and realise that with all the demands on the NHS it could be very easy to turn from a 'real person' into just 'a patient' .  I feel that people who have been diagnosed and are being treated for cancer really need somebody who can take the time to explain things, listen, offer advice and provide information on what help is available, support and value the real person. 

Once I have finished the horrendous and endless running, I will swap my trainers for some funny bicycle shoes and a helmet and start training for the London-Surrey 100 mile bike ride in August.  While hopefully it will be a little warmer and the blistered feet will heal I'm sure to be facing some thigh burning hills and saddle sores.  To know I am raising money for a wonderful worthwhile cause will be a big boost when the going gets tough and I just want to stay home and eat cake or drink beer in the garden.
