This Educare facility that was founded and opened in 2008 to meet the physical and emotional needs of mentally and physically challenged children in these areas.

It is the only facility of this kind in the surrounding informal settlements that support many of the children who have single or unemployed parents and were subject to being left unattended or vulnerable to abuse.

Its also provides educational support, recreational activities, access to relevant information in managing various disabilities, referral services, good nutrition advice and makes available HIV and Aids counselling, psychological and social welfare support in this underprivileged community as a drop in clinic to help the epilepsy, visual impairment and other disabilities.

Through the unwavering, support, attention and indeed love of a local dedicated staff of 8, much has been achieved in providing a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment to these children, in the hope of securing them a promising future. All too often stigmatised by society and cowered into silence, these disabled children now radiate confidence and happiness.

The facility caters for approximately
35 disabled children and teens between the ages of 18 months to 18 years old, ranging from those with mild physical and mental disorders to children who are severely incapacitated.

Over time, the need arose to offer an educational facility to their siblings. Having incorporated another 30 able-bodied children of nursery school age who suffer from foetal alcohol syndrome, today it not only educates over 65 children but also feeds them with three nutritious meals each day.

All children are looked after in the community by relatives or guardians and so much of the running costs are taken up in operating transport to and from the facility. In addition the only access it currently has to professional physiotherapy is at the Children’s Red Cross Hospital which is at least 40 km’s away and which is a very arduous journey, for those with cerebral palsy to make in taxi’s and currently eats away at valuable funds.

The facility is not able to attract any government funding, and recently the land has been purchase by the community so permanent buildings can replace the temporary leaky containers and tin sheds. Therefore this Project is of great importance and requires immediate support to start the much needed building work on the property. This will permanently accommodate and equip the growing needs of the children and staff in a professional environment so that fully trained staff can offer physiotherapy and occupational therapy, in the interest of providing appropriate/professional medical care on an ongoing basis.

The first 2 phases of the build are now complete with support from our friends at Siemens who have built the main structure. We will aim to do 2 more phases of the build which will include completing the roof and finishing off the interior. We are over half way there and need your support to complete this amazing project!
