Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

We support the growing number of people in and around Milton Keynes affected by a life-limiting illness. We give our patients and their loved ones specialist, personalised care - free of charge. Only 13.8% of our costs are met by ongoing NHS funding, so we’re dependent on your support. Thank you.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I  am participating in this years London Marathon for the 4th time .I have been fortunate enough to have gained a place through the ballot for the third consecutive year. I therefore feel it is important to use the opportunity to raise some money for a worthy cause.

I lost my best friend and my brother in law both to cancer six years ago within the space of two months , my uncle lost a long battle against cancer last year and I know too many others who have suffered either directly with the illness or have had friends or relatives whose lives have been impacted by it.Raising money for charities who support those suffering with the illness or affected by it is a cause close to my heart .

This year I have decided to raise funds for Willen Hospice , a local organisation based in Milton Keynes. In their own words "Willen Hospice is a registered charity that provides specialist care for people whose illness no longer responds to curative treatment (also known as specialist palliative care)"

Their services are provided 24 hours a day without any cost to the patient or their families. Their support extends beyond the Hospice itself where they care for over 600 patients each year. Their Day Hospice, Community Nursing and Social Care teams enable them to reach many other patients and families, friends and carers.
Like many charities they have struggled financially through the economic downturn and they would be very grateful for any fundraising or donations to help them through this difficult time. I have set myself a personal target of raising at least £1000 for their cause.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks for your support.
