MGS Desert Trekkers (aged 13-15) will be doing a sponsored walk of about 350 km across the Sahara Desert Oct 17th-29th 2009.
Their aim is to raise money for a special appeal Jeffrey Mullenbach’s Future Wish and also the charity When You Wish upon a Star, that makes children with life threatening illness aged 2-16 years have a special wish come true - from a trip to Lapland to meet Father Christmas, swimming with the dolphins in Florida, to a day out at Centre Parks, to opening the Manchester United Football Match. Whatever they want the Charity does all they can to make it happen.
One of the pupils got the trekkers motivated because his friend Jeffrey Mullenbach (Marple Hall School and a former pupil at Ludworth Primary School, Marple Bridge) is part way through his gruelling 3 years of chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia. Jeffrey was granted a wish from When You Wish upon a Star but he was too ill to travel for his primary wish. So the MGS Desert Trekkers are raising money to give Jeffrey a future wish - something to look forward to when his treatment is finished in 2011.
Three local schools all with a link to Jeffrey have agreed to work collectively to support the MGS Desert Trekkers in raising money for Jeffrey Mullenbach’s Future Wish and When you wish upon a star.
