Suffolk Family Carers provides information and support for Family Carers. A Family Carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help.

Story

I am hooked on running and completed my first marathon in 2hrs 52minutes. I love the challenge of the marathon and all the training that goes into it. Its always been an ambition to run the london marathon and I gained an entry this year from my time I ran in edinburgh.

I chose to support Suffolk Family Carers as a local charity to raise some much needed funds to help make a difference to the lives of family Carers.

A Family Carer is someone of any age whose life is restricted because they are looking after another person who cannot manage without help because of illness, age related frailty, mental health need, substance misuse or disability. Family Carers are not paid and do not always live with the person they care for. They may be caring for a friend, neighbour or relative.

Many people with a caring responsibility do not recognise themselves as a Family Carer. They see themselves as a dutiful mother, son, friend or neighbour and not someone with the right to support and services.

I believe that it is such a worthwhile charity. People who care for family members are often overlooked and this charity recognises how hard they work and the commitment which they make everyday.

I have seen my own family care for relatives. It opened my eyes to how amazing those who care for their love ones really are but Family Carers need support, information and advice. Suffolk Family Carers offers practical and emotional support, with a range of different services to help Family Carers of all ages. They enable and empower Family Carers to continue to care for their family members and have a life beyond caring.
