Story

Burgess Hill School for Girls has taken up the challenge of walking 600km in 5 days. The challenge will begin on Wednesday 6th July and will finish on Sunday 10th July 2011. The route is 600km from Ambleside in the Lake District to Burgess Hill School for Girls.

The challenge involves groups of past and present pupils, staff and parents walking and cycling in relays. There will be a core team but past and present pupils and parents can join the route at certain points.

There are many ways past and present pupils and parents can get involved, from walking with us to following us online. If you would like to join us, please email Liz Laybourn, Deputy Headmistress on lizlaybourn@burgesshill-school.com.

Follow us online: You can keep up to date with all the latest information and news here at www.burgesshill-school.com or www.mmmch.co.uk.

If you are an Old Girl of Burgess Hill School for Girls and on Facebook, please request to join the group 'Margaret Morris Memorial Challenge 2011' to find out more information regarding this exciting challenge.

The challenge is in memory of the late Margaret Morris, former Headmistress of the School between 1955-1971. Miss Morris joined the staff in 1934 as a classroom teacher, joining Miss Goode, the school's first Headmistress. The purpose of the event is to create a lasting memorial to Miss Morris and provide funds for a bursary in her memory.

Miss Morris and Miss Goode were graduates of the House of Education in Ambleside, one of the leading teacher training colleges from 1892 to the present day. It was also to Ambleside that a part of the school was evacuated during WWII.

We hope that this venture will remind those connected with Burgess Hill School for Girls over the years what a fantastic school it is and that through the challenge we can establish a fitting tribute to Margaret Morris by providing bursary support for pupils who could not otherwise access the excellent education here.

We began our 100-day countdown on Monday 28th March. Mimi Anderson, a former pupil, an 'Ultra-runner' and the holder of the World Record for the fastest woman to run 840 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End, attended the launch assembly.

Thank you for taking the time to read this page and would be grateful for any donations for this fitting tribute to Miss Morris.

Thanks for taking the time to visit ourJustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
