At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that’s the equivalent to one person every three minutes.
Dementia is an illness very close to the hearts of mine and my family's as my beautiful, elegant, kind and caring Nanna suffered with it in her later years. Although the majority of the time she fought her hardest to stay switched on and present with us, it did consume her very quickly, making the strong and remarkable lady I had always known almost child-like. My nanna; Audrey Mainstone, was not her self in the years leading up to her passing. This was not only difficult and deflating for such an independent lady, who had never needed help and such intimate care from others before, but also heartbreakingly devastating for us to watch her go through too.

To lose someone with or to dementia is to lose them over and over again. Not only when they pass but every time they forget another piece of themselves, a piece of you and a piece of your connection and bond with them... It’s constant loss and constant heartbreak. It truly is the long goodbye.

Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it’s the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us raise money for a world without dementia.
