Story

UPDATE: 14/08/11, Having been out in Kenya for a week now training will continue as of Tuesday 16/08/11,with runs being on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Provisional date for the run is currently 06/11/11.

Introduction

53 Field Squadron, 39 Engineer Regiment are to be deployed on an exersice in Kenya from Aug-Nov this year carrying out a couple of construction tasks and during that time there is a small group of us who plan to complete not one but TWO Marathons in the same week, one of which will be done while wearing boots and carrying around about 16KGs in a bergan.

We intend to run a combined 3500 miles (the distance from our Squadron HQ in Waterbeach, UK  to Helmand Province, Afghan between now and the end of the Exercise. We have already begun our preparations for this "event" and will continue until we have completed the two marathons.

Please help us give something back to a charity that helps over 4000 soldiers and soldiers familys every year. Currently Help for Heroes is getting the bulk of the donations and media attention. While they do great work, their focus is service personnel who have been injured in Afghanastan and Iraq.

Below is a link to the Army Benevolent Fund's (ABF) homepage where you can find out more information about how this charity helps so many past and present service personnel:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks again for looking and reading. I will update regularly and include links to my training activities, details of the training plan and how far i have covered.

At the end once i have returned to the UK any "offline donations" will be removed and made into "online" donations by myself as i will then be able to get Gift aid for that money as well.
