Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After three and a half years living and working in Kuwait (with the previous five years similarly spent in Dubai) the contract is up, continuing job prospects in the region are bleak and it looks like our little Middle East adventure is over.   It's time to head home to UK.

But, while my lovely wife hopped on the plane for the five and a half hour flight back to Blighty, and our furniture took the long container ship route via Suez, I plan to go overland - on my motorbike.

I aim to take about a month to ride from Kuwait City to Aberdeen in Scotland - which is where I'm from though home is now in London.  So, 20 countries and something in the region of 11000 kms / 6800 miles.  Check my blog here for more.

At the same time I want to do something with my bike trip, something positive that might achieve some greater good beyond simply satisfying whatever selfish motivation is driving me to undertake this adventure.   Like raising money for charity through sponsorship.

Trying to be international and non-sectarian about it, I wanted to link home, the UK, with what has been home, the ME, for the last eight plus years.  So what better than the Red Cross and the Red Crescent organisations?

For the British Red Cross Society, it’s easy.  Just click on the ‘Donate now’ button below and follow instructions.  Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe  - JustGiving will never sell them on or send unwanted emails.  Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.  So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Feel free to choose whether to make a (modest or large) lump sum donation or base it on my journey – say a penny per mile or kilometre (£68 or £110 or the equivalent in $) - or go mad and make it £1/$1 per mile or kilometre - just be aware, I intend to complete the trip!

For the Red Crescent it’s a little different since there’s no equivalent to the JustGiving site for the Palestine Red Crescent Society - the Middle East charity I’ve chosen to support.  If you would rather donate to the Red Crescent (or both!) please click here to go directly to their online donation page.  Unfortunately there’s no way to link your Palestine Red Crescent Society donation directly to my trip, but it’s the money raised that matters.

Please dig deep and donate now.
