Devizes to Westminster · 29 March 2013 to 1 April 2013 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

The Devizes to Westminster Canoe Marathon has been dubbed by many as 'The Kayaker's Everest', which could not be a more fitting description for the gruelling 125 mile race along the Kennet Canal and the River Thames which finishes under Westminster Bridge in the heart of London.

In our slightly run-down, but newly redecorated K2 (see its full glory in pictures) we put ourselves through rigorous training no matter what the weather. If you asked us why we've decided to put ourselves through the DW, involving training in snow, frozen canals and icy winds neither of us could give you a decent answer. To be honest when we took up the challenge, neither of us quite understood the scale of the task we were undertaking, including 3am wake-ups and overnight training in sub-zero temperatures.

Although both of our original partners were forced to pull out through illness, the Dom-Magnus partnership is proving to be a robust one indeed. We have now completed 3 out of the 4 practice "Waterside" races, which range in distance from 14.5 - 34 miles. You can follow our progress and check our results here:

Crohn's and Colitis Uk is a fairly small, largely unkown charity that is close to my heart. It does fantastic work for a range of people, particularly teenagers, suffering form Crohn's and Colitis. So far the diseases are not fully understood by medical professionals, meaning that future research will be all the more beneficial, having a real impact on the lives of the 1 in 500 people affected by the diseases. Doing the DW is my way of helping this cause, and we hope that you support us, and the work of Crohn's and Colitis Uk.

We will begin the race on the 29th of March this year, and your generous donations will give us all the more motivation and incentive when the going gets tough.

Many thanks for your support,

Magnus.
