My story

Updated- 28th January 2012
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This is dedicated to our Beautiful baby girl Maisie Hope aged just 4 days. Although Maisie was with us for only 4 short days she has achieved so very much and touched so many hearts. We are just so so proud of our precious baby girl.
Firstly we would like to thank every single person who has donated so far to this wonderful cause, no matter how big or small. We appreciate every single penny especially in todays hard times.
On Christmas Day 2011 we had a very emotional visit to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to tell them that we had not only reached but exceeded our origional target of £14,000. Because of all of you who kindly donated money the unit have now been able to order the new cooling mat.
We will always continue to raise money for the Neonatal Unit and are in regular contact, discussing what we would like to raise money for next. There are a number of vital pieces of equipment and machinery which the unit could benefit from such as machinery to assist the cooling mat, incubators for premature babies and straps for the Transport Incubator. All of these things range from around £10,000 to £20,000.
We have set our new target initially at £10,000 (which we have added on to the origional target) which we hope to acheive in 2012 through fundraising events, starting with Maisies Daddy doing the Coast to Coast in April.
The Neonatal Unit and its wonderful team of doctors and nurses make a huge difference to so many peoples lives and not just the babies but their familys, and they will always remain very dear to our hearts.
Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts xx

------------------------------
First a little about Maisie she was born October 5th 2011 one day past her due date, weighed 5lb 13oz.

Maisie like many other babies born throughout the world had the chord wrapped around her neck, however in Maisies case the chord was wrapped too tight meaning that not enough blood was being pumped around her body and not enough oxygen was getting to her little brain.

After a good fight and a few scares Maisie was rushed to the NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit at james cook university hospital, where she was looked after by the most dedicated, caring and amazing team of doctors and nurses, who we will never be able to thank enough for the care and attention they gave to Maisie 24hrs a day.

Maisie was placed on a special hi tech cooling mat which lowers and controls the body's core temperature by around 2.5 degrees C for 72 hours. This is proven to radically reduce the deterioration of the body's cells especially from the brain, meaning any damage sustained through lack of oxygen shouldnt get any worse. The body is an amazing thing, and all of Maisies major organs, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys would in time, of repaired themselves. However the damage sustained before she was placed on the cooling mat Tragically for Maisie was too severe, but she fought on bravely for 4 days and nights. But on Oct 9th she silently and peacefully slipped away from us all.
Those four days where both the happiest and most heartbreaking days of our lives but we got to be with our beautiful girl throughout and for that we are eternally gratefull.
There are only a few of these cooling mats available in the north east and our aim is to supply a second mat to the James Cook University Hospital neonatal ward. Although this isnt a happy ending for us it could be for another family.
So please dig deep and donate now, this is such a worth while cause and will give HOPE to so many parents that their child survives such a trauma.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Maisie Hope, Mummy and Daddy xx
