“Love is a one-way street. Love, like respect isn't something you get; it's something you give”
― Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram
I visited Cambodia last year with my daughter. We visited a few orphanages to see if we could help in any way. The children didn't speak my language so I touched my heart and said "my name is Maite" and pointed at their hearts so they responded accordingly. When I got to Liza, the girl in the picture, she took a pen and wrote hers on the board and gave me a huge smile! She was so proud of herself!
It took me many years to learn my worth in life and since I did, I have been unstoppable. That is my wish for all the children in the world. To have a chance at life, and no matter where they are, that they know they can change their surroundings, impact their environment and reach for the stars. Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them We're born to make a difference! Can we help?
I never sailed before embarking on this adventure. We are going through a rigorous training and as I get closer to my challenge ( crossing the South Atlantic as race crew and on our team boat UNICEF) I will be championing for children's rights.
