Story

About International Cleanup Day

Project AWARE's longstanding International Cleanup Day event is the biggest shoreline and underwater cleanup of its kind. Held annually in September, more than 370,000 volunteers clean over 53,000 kilometers of shoreline to remove 3 million kilograms of rubbish.

What are Sharjah Aquarium & Maritime Museum,  what are they doing and where?

Sharjah Aquarium opened in June 2008 under the leadership and patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Supreme Council. In June of 2009 His Highness inaugurated the new Sharjah Maritime Museum on the same site.

The mission of Sharjah Aquarium is to encourage the people of the Emirate of Sharjah and all its visitors to cherish and conserve the beauty and wealth of the oceans.

Sharjah Maritime Museum's mission is to preserve and interpret the stories and material evidence of the Emirate's rich maritime heritage.

Sharjah Aquarium & Maritime Museum will be coordinating a beach and underwater cleanup at Al Khan Beach (behind the Aquarium and Maritime Museum)  on Saturday 3rd October( not 26th of September as was originally planned) starting at 9am. All ages are welcome to come and help. For more information see www.sharjahaquarium.ae.

You can also show your support by making a donation and help us make our first Cleanup event a winner..... for the sake of our oceans.
