Help a Capital Child is proud to announce its new name: Make Some Noise – we will help disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Thanks to your support, we have grown over the years and we will continue to help those affected by illness, disability, bereavement or lack of opportunity.

Story

So a friend challenges me to run the to the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October for Help a London Child and what do I do?  I accept the challenge of course!  After all life is far too short to worry about 13.1 miles of pain...

Yes, I am at it again, only this time it is double the distance!  Moving on from last year's 10K, I will be trying my hand and, more importantly, testing my feet, at the Half Marathon distance.  A Foot and Mouth outbreak saved me from running ill-prepared in the 2007 Windsor Half Marathon, but I can't avoid these miles forever!

I have six months in which to train and I am confident that I will be able to put in a respectable performance.  Using my 10k pace as a guide, I plan to complete the Half Marathon in 2hrs 18mins or less.  How much less depends only on how well I train, and by the time I have crossed the finish line, I hope I will have wowed you all with my athletic prowess!

Now I don't run purely for fun, in fact anyone who has ever run knows that the fun part is actually when you stop and have a rest!  No, this run is unashamedly to raise money for charity, namely Capital Radio's Help a London Child.  I won't fill up this page telling you about all the things they do - clicking on the links take you to the website with all the details.  What I will say is that, by sponsoring me, you can help to improve the lives of disadvantaged children across London, enabling them to access the opportunities most of us take for granted.

I am looking to raise a minimum of £395 and you can help me achieve this by sponsoring me in a couple of ways.  You can either donate on-line, through this very site or in the old style with me putting you on a form and collecting the money in person.  JustGiving does take some of the gift aid for its own administration costs, so if you pay tax and want to maximise the gift aid amount that the charity receives, you can sponsor me "old style".  Fret not, I can record all sponsorship on this site, so you can see how your generosity is contributing to my overall target.

As I love to share, you can follow my training highs (and lows) at my training diary here.  I will be regularly updating you  with how I am doing and I am sure that by race day, you will feel like your running too!

So over to you.  Whether you want to sponsor per mile, whole race, by finish time is entirely your choice.  Any donations will be greatly appreciated both by me and the children who ultimately benefit from you generosity.
