Story
Hello!
A little on why we are running the Manchester 10K!
As many of you know, Zac was born with a condition known as PFFD (Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency) which in simple terms for Zac means that he has virtually no femur (thigh bone) or hip joint. Since he was born in 2008 he has been under the care of specialists at Manchester Disablement Services Centre (DSC) and was fitted with his first prosthetic leg aged one. Since then, Zac underwent major surgery two years ago to enable the use of a more sophisticated prosthesis as he grows. Throughout this time the DSC has been central to Zac’s coordinated care and does so for many other individuals year on year.
The Manchester Disablement Services Centre provides a comprehensive service for amputee/limb loss rehabilitation. They also help to improve mobility, posture and seating through wheelchairs and assisted equipment for around 13,000 users in the Greater Manchester area.
Zac has spent a lot of time at the DSC and will continue to do so for the rest of his life. Zac and children like him who rely on the Centre are the motivating factor for us to raise money whilst participating in the Manchester 10K. The provision of toys, entertainment and decoration at the DSC relies largely on donations and fund raising. We would like to help ensure that the experience for children like Zac who spend a considerable amount of time at the Centre is as positive and stress free as possible. Please help us to make a difference for a great number of children of all ages around the North-West.
