Having turned 50 last year I was determined to be part of a challenge that not only tested my fitness levels but that also meant something to me emotionally. Last Summer I read the incredible book Nightingale (if you haven’t read it – it’s a must have!) and the book inspired me to take part in the amazing Camp Simcha challenge this year.

In July I will be carrying out a challenge that commemorates the bravery of others.  A trail, across the Pyrenees, that was one of the toughest WW2 escape routes from Nazi occupied France into
Spain. Local people risked their lives during WW2, to help thousands of
servicemen and Jewish refugees fleeing to safety, through the demanding trek in the heart of the Pyrenees.  I will be passing plaques and memorials dedicated to their bravery.

This trek is arduous and steep with rocky ridges, beach forests and mountain lakes, on remote trails reaching over 700m before descending into Spain.  When the going gets tough (and it will!!) I will only have to think of those who undertook the same paths in fear of their lives, to find the determination to continue.

What better way to celebrate my rather ridiculous age of 50 than walk the same path so many men, women and children took to Freedom and to hopefully raise some much needed funds for a charity I have been working with and that has been close to my heart,  for 12 years!

As many of you know Camp Simcha exists to improve the quality of life for Jewish Children suffering from all forms of serious childhood illness.  We believe the best way to improve the quality of life for a sick child is to focus on the whole family, including the siblings.  We do this by providing 24/7 practical and emotional support for the parents and powerful positive experiences for the children.

I have started my training programme and I would appreciate your help in helping me raise money for Camp Simcha.  A huge thank you in advance – it is much appreciated!
