Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On Monday 7 September 2015, Mandy together with 4 golfing friends, Diana, Ruth, Lindsay & Julia,  will be playing 72 holes of golf at 4 different courses within the Barnet area, starting at 4am. We shall be raising money for 2 charities.

The  Alzheimers society and  Ovarian cancer research via Genesis

Our team member Mandy has personally been affected by both.

Our connection with Alzheimer’s disease is sadly through Mandy's Father, Lawrence Fisher, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia at the very young age of 49 (she was only 12). Mandy and her mother watched him change from a caring, gentle, handsome, loving person to a frail man with no memory and no ability to do anything for himself, even going to the toilet and keeping himself clean. He no longer recognized them!.  No one  understood what they were going through and they dealt with it very much on their own. Mandys mother, Morella,  not wanting people to suffer like they did, went about setting up an organisation to help others in the same situation. That organisation is the Alzheimer’s Society and was created  35 years ago. Morella, who is 80  is a vice president and still extremely active within the society.

Mandy was diagnosed with stage IV Ovarian cancer last March 2014, she was 55 and had everything to live for!. It is often referred to as a “silent killer” which did not surprise her as she had the biggest shock of her life, having been fit, happy and having believed herself to be very healthy. Fortunately for her she has a wonderful family and amazing friends and between them they held her hand through a major operation and many months of chemotherapy.  o much so that by July she had returned to playing golf and was almost living a normal active life again.

Mandy has learnt through her life that events happen for a reason and if you are fortunate enough to survive an illness or any sad situation the best way of feeling good is to be positive and to help others in any way you can.

We have chosen a marathon day of golf which consists of playing 4 rounds at 4 different golf courses within Barnet. We would like to raise as much money as we possibly can and the only way we can do that is with your support.

The money raised for Alzheimers disease will go towards "Singing for the brain" through the Lawrence Fisher fund and the money raised for Genesis, will go towards Ovarian cancer research via Oncologist Dr Sarah Blagdens fund

Warmest wishes,

Mandy Fisher, Diana Rubin, Ruth Langdorf, Lindsay Blair & Julia Livingstone
