North Trek in Himachal Pradesh : · 17 May 2012 to 20 May 2012 ·

VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

This page is not about me really. It's about those thousands of people who are not as fortunate as you and I. These are people who have certain developmental disabilities (e.g. mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, etc.). To make matters worse, they have limited or no option of having access to livelihoods without adequate support - both from institutions and from individuals like us.

I'm making a little effort to bring about a small positive impact in the lives of these less privileged fellow citizens. I’ve volunteered to participate in a 3-day trek, called the Accenture-VSO Himachal Challenge Event 2012.

So how does this trek help the cause? Well, to be able to participate in the trek, I need to raise funds for a livelihoods program for families of the disabled in specific slums in New Delhi. The funds I raise will be used to meet the following objectives:

1.       Develop skills of over 200 persons with disabilities on gainful employment opportunities

2.       Establish 6 self-help groups of persons with disabilities in the 4 slums of East Delhi and link them to livelihood opportunities

3.       Develop job placements of persons with disabilities and there by augment their income source

I really feel passionately about this cause, and I hope you do so too. I’m looking forward to receiving your support in form of funds

I need to raise the money latest by May 11, 2012, ahead of the trek dates (May 17-20, 2012). Believe me, any contribution – big or small – WILL make a difference.
