This summer I spent 12 days in the Limpopo province of South Africa. I was part of a six person team that traveled there to offer Maths and English Masterclasses for local high school teachers.

This year, due to civil unrest,we could only have about 100 teachers (50 Maths + 50 English). They stayed with us for a week, eager to share their experiences and learn how teaching is done in the UK.

Each of this 50 teachers works at a different high school, where there are about 1000 to 2000 learners. This means that the program has an impact on the education of up to 100.000 children.

After the experience I am raising money for the program to continue next year, so that a new team can repeat this experience and continue to improve the education in one of the poorest regions of South Africa.

The Masterclasses cost £17,000 in total for 5 days (this year it was reduced to 4 because of elections, so we made the days more intense and packed), that is £3,400 for a day of classes.

Any penny counts, here is a rough guide of what your money will be used in. A £35 donation will pay for one day of one of the 100 teachers that attended this year. A £60 donation will pay for all the classes for one of us. And a £10 donation is what costs Warwick in Africa to teach one child for a whole month (yes, the Warwick in Africa program also sends volunteers to teach directly the children).
