Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Your Donations will be supporting both:
Jessie’s Fund Charity and also
Nottingham’s Speech, Sign and Song Club
which is not-for-profit.
- Jessie’s Fund http://www.jessiesfund.org.uk/ is a charity that was set up after the tragic passing of young Jessica George, a bright and musical nine-year-old who suddenly became ill and was diagnosed with a rare and inoperable brain tumour.
- Speech, Sign & Song http://www.speechsignsong.co.uk/ is a not-for-profit small and friendly music club in place to help preschool children with communication difficulties.
Why sponsor me to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane???
My oldest son Reuben has been diagnosed with Trisomy 9P, which is a rare condition that has so far manifested itself in delayed speech and learning difficulties. Reuben is almost 4 and is a lovely bright child. Although we primarily rely on sign language, we have personally witnessed an increase in confidence when attempting more verbal communication, since joining the Speech, Sign and Song Club. Every week the children come home with a new musical instrument on loan, and bags of excitement about what they learned in class. It costs almost £200 per session to run this group and contributions from the parents only cover the cost of the room. They are otherwise reliant on one-off grants and donations.
Speech, Sign & Song Objectives in a nutshell:
- They provide a weekly music group for preschool children with communication difficulties.
- They offer a fantastic range of musical instruments and a chance for the kids to not only physically interact through dance and play, but also improve their communication and social development.
- All of the children get to learn and develop at their own pace, which is hugely important to their confidence.
- They help a variety of children including those with Autism, Downs Syndrome, ADHD and other learning disabilities, physical and/or sensory impairments.
- The group is run by two experienced preschool music leaders who also work closely with us as parents, offering us practical and emotional support.
Jessie's Fund was established as a registered charity in April 1995 with the aim of helping seriously ill and disabled children in all areas of the UK through the therapeutic use of music. A significant proportion of their work is in schools for children with special needs.
Their objectives in a nutshell are:
- To equip every children's hospice in the UK with the appropriate instruments for creative and therapeutic music.
- To establish, by a pattern of three-year funding programmes, music therapy posts at each children's hospice in the UK.
- To provide training courses to enable general care staff in children's hospices to use music as a tool of communication and expression.
- To help children in hospitals, schools and centres for children with special needs to benefit from creative music or music therapy when they would otherwise be unable to do so.
- To actively encourage the development of creative music work in schools for children with special needs.
- To advise organisations who approach them for information about the benefits of using music for children who are ill and/or of varied abilities.
Help me raise £1000 to support Jessie’s Fund so that they can help Speech Sign and Song continue to do the great work that they do. All of the proceeds from your donations will go to Speech Sign and Song and the Gift Aid will go to Jessie’s Fund.

Thanks in advance for your support.
