My story
Africaid's WhizzKids United delivers excellence in HIV prevention, care, treatment and support to youth worldwide through football. Based in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa - the heart of the HIV epidemic, five intrepid WKU volunteers are undertaking an overnight hike up through Sani Pass in the Drakensberg mountains of KwaZulu-Natal. Sani Pass connects KwaZulu-Natal to the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. The hike is ''very long and very steep'' and promises to challenge the group to work together, rely on each other and to test their physical ability.
The is the gateway to the ‘Roof of Africa’ scenic route that connects the spectacular scenery of the South African province of with the mountains of northern . Starting at 1540m above sea level you will follow the deep valley incised by the to breast the summit at 2873m - with almost 1000m climbed in the last 8km.
The funds raised through this intiative will contribute towards reaching more children in Africa and the expansion of the project to work with street children in Bangladesh.
It is a real challenge which demonstrates the teams commitment to the work they do and we urge you to support us!
Der Sanipass ist ein 2.873 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel liegender Gebirgspass in den Drakensbergen zwischen dem Königreich Lesotho und Südafrika. Er ist der höchste Pass in Südafrika. Die südafrikanische Straße zum Sanipass ist die drittsteilste Passstraße der Welt. Auf einer 6,5 Kilometer langen Teilstrecke werden 1.330 Höhenmeter überwunden. Die Strecke zählt zu den eindrucksvollsten Straßen des Landes und ist gleichzeitig der einzige östliche Zugang zum Königreich Lesotho. Der südafrikanische Grenzposten befindet sich nicht an der eigentlichen Grenze auf Passhöhe, sondern am Fuß einer acht Kilometer langen Strecke. Zwischen Grenzposten und Passhöhe darf die Straße nur mit geländegängigen Fahrzeugen befahren werden.
