Story

24-05-10

One month on and who would have thought it, by an amazing twist of fate out latest little baby decided to arrive early on Election Day to be precise!! And being born at 33 weeks was admitted to the Special Care Baby Unit!! After receiving excellent care from the unit, Mum and baby Jake came home after two weeks and are doing very well. I now have first hand experience of the truly brilliant work the unit does, a massive thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the unit who are so caring and making us feel so welcome!! From Marcus, Janine and not forgetting our little Jake! Please keep up the good work!!

Stop Press

I made the distance!! on a very warm April day I managed to finish in a respectable time of 4 hours 18 minutes, a bit slower than I had predicted, but the hilly start took more effort than I thought it would!! I ran through half way at about 1 hour 57 but had to slow down a bit after that!! The crowd support was so important as I had to dig deep over the last 5 miles or so but I managed to pull it together and finish strongly. A massive thankyou to all my supporters who have sponsored me, I huge thankyou Janine, Daniel and Jessica who have given such support and motivation I love you all, thankyou to Mick for dropping me off at the start and Mum and Dad for being on the course for support and dropping me back, Chris and Gill thanks for coming down sorry I missed you!! And lastly thankyou to Kiera who was my motivation and inspiration, I am proud to be your dad and will always love you and will carry you in my heart forever, Love your Dad Marcus x

Hi Everyone

I am running the Brighton Marathon in memory of our Daughter Kiera, who was born very premature at just 23 weeks and 5 days after my wife Janine contracted an infection during pregnancy. The Doctors and Midwives at the Princess Royal Hospital battled for five days to stop the labour but unfortunately to no avail.

Kiera was born early in the morning of the 7th February 2008 and sadly died just minutes later, after it became apparent she was just too small to make it.

The pain of leaving hospital without our beautiful baby Girl is too hard describe, something that will never leave us.

So that is why the special care baby unit is so important. Although they couldn't help us because our little girl was too small they do fantastic work with many more families to prevent the heartache of such a loss.

The care and compassion we received from the Hospital staff during our ordeal was faultless.

So please contribute what you can and let me do all the hard work!!

Many thanks

Marcus.

P.S. Please come back and check for updates on my training!!

I have now stepped up my training and are running more than a marathon a week in training!! Emotionally it will be a tough weekend as it will be the second Anniversary of losing Kiera :-(I am planning to have a quiet day with Janine, Daniel and Jessica on Sunday.

Update 21/02/2010

I was up at 6am this morning (sunday!) for a long run 16 miles!!, was met by a freezing cold wind, sleet and black ice all over the pavements!! I must be totally crazy!! I can't belive that the year I choose to do the marathon I have to train through the coldest winter in more than 25 Years!! Running in a wet top in not good as I have a nice case of joggers nipple!! I will be having a couple of rest days before training again!! I just want spring to arrive now!! Thankyou to everyone who has donated and given messages of support it really does mean so much to me and the SCBU!!
