Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Mollie is a beautiful 14.1hh piebald Irish cob mare who came to us with her friend Jimmy in October 2013.
On 10 February Mollie began to show signs of colic; her symptoms were intermittent, the Vet visited daily and we watched her carefully. On 13 February Mollie’s condition was no better and had started to worsen so it was agreed that we needed to find out what was causing her to colic. We took her to Endell’s Equine Hospital in Salisbury, where she was assessed and examined by Nigel Woodford. In the middle of the next day, after eating, Mollie started to colic again and there was no option but to send her for surgery.
As an animal rescue charity the care of our animals is paramount and we will do whatever it takes to ensure their health and wellbeing. After hours of surgery it was found that Mollie had a blocked Cecum, this was cleared and we received a call at the end of the afternoon to say that Mollie was back up on her feet.
On 20 February Mollie was bright and doing well and Nigel Woodford and his team felt that it was time for Mollie to come home; so the next day she said goodbye to the fantastic team at Endell’s and we brought her back to the Animal Sanctuary in Church Knowle, Dorset. Mollie will have to spend the next weeks and months recovering but we are very happy to have her home.
We spend more than £90,000 per year on the Veterinary costs of the animals in our care. We have launched this appeal to try to raise the extra £5,000 we have to pay to cover the costs of Mollie’s assessments, surgery and care. Please help us by donating to her appeal.
If we are lucky enough to exceed the cost, all further donations will as always go directly towards the welfare of other animals that desperately need care.
