Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Great Wall Trek was just the beginning of fundraising for BCUK and has spurred me to set a personal target of raising £5,000.

Our story.....

I  took part in this challenge to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of my amazing and courageous husband, Bob, who lost his five year battle with this disease on 10th July 2014.

Plans were made to visit China again in October 14, to meet with Bob's friends and give tribute to his memory in Shanghai and scatter his ashes in Hong Kong harbour, as was his final wish. By chance, I discovered that Bowel Cancer UK was starting the Great Wall trek the day I was due to transfer to Bejing. I knew immediately it was something I wanted to do to raise funds for the charity in memory of Bob.

Bob always talked openly about his illness to try to raise awareness and take away some of the fear and embarrassment people sometimes feel when talking about this type of cancer.

Bob's willingness to talk about the disease, and his on-going treatment, mirrored the very ethos of the charity Bowel Cancer UK which saves lives by raising awareness, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice.

Bob was the bravest, most optimistic man you could ever wish to meet as well as a caring and loving husband, son, brother, dad, grandad, friend and colleague.

He is sorely missed, and always will be, by many the world over.

Thank you for your support. Marg xx
