Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.
Brittle Bone Society is the only UK wide charity dedicated to providing support to people affected by Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The Society now has more than 1,000 members, and works closely with specialist medical units, and other professionals throughout the UK. It was established in 1968 by Margaret Grant, who has OI. When she was young Margaret was aware that there virtually no support for people with OI and that many medical professionals knew little or nothing about the condition. When her daughter Yvonne was born in 1961 very little had changed. Margaret was convinced that there were other OI people in the same position as herself and that they would all benefit from supporting each other, and so the Brittle Bone Society was born. For many years Margaret was the driving force of the BBS, which was recognised when she was awarded an MBE in 1989. Still based in Dundee the BBS now has around 1,000 members, some of whom are second or third generation of the same families who contacted Margaret more than forty years ago. The Brittle Bone Society still offer help, support and advice to anyone affected by OI, including family, carers, social workers and other professionals Margaret married David Grant in 1960 and they are both looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage in February 2010 .As always their greatest wish is to help the Brittle Bone Society. They know that many of their friends are considering giving them a gift in honour of their anniversary and they would be delighted if instead, people made a donation to the Brittle Bone Society to help people with OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta)
