For 6 months I was a live-in carer for Kara Spencer who needs 24 hour care. Kara is 24 years old and has severe ME. She is house bound and mostly bed bound, although a special lounge chair that Kara has recently received means that she sometimes gets to go in her living room. ME is a complicated illness and I never really knew about it until I met with Kara and her family, read up on websites that they recommended and then lived with Kara for 7 days at a time, one week on one week off.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis affects thousands of people, those with severe symptoms may be housebound, sensitive to noise, light and chemicals, in intense pain daily, unable to walk, stand or even sit upright, some are even tube fed, suffer from seizures and paralysis, unable to sleep. These are just a few of the terrible symptoms that people with ME have to suffer. Their reality is very different to yours and mine. Shut in a dark, quiet room every single day. You can't even begin to imagine the life of an ME sufferer, it's not easy to understand until you live with it.

I hope you can help me to raise money for Invest In ME and support biomedical research. Thank you for reading my story.
