As the orgnaiser of this event and the Fundraising Manager for Lewis-Manning Hospice, I felt that it was only right that I should be the first person to jump - so here goes!

Lewis-Manning Hospice is a day hospice that offers specialist palliative nursing care to people living with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in Poole, West Bournemouth and East Dorset. It provides patients with physiotherapy and rehabilitation, help with pain and symptom management, creative arts therapy, advice and support. It also allows carers to have some respite in the knowledge that their loved ones are being cared for in a safe, warm yet highly professional environment.

 

There are no charges to patients or their carers for any of the services. The hospice receives approximately 30% of its funding from NHS Bournemouth and Poole.  This means they must raise over £50,000 every month to cover costs. They are heavily dependant on legacy income and donations as well as income from their retail shops, fundraising events and lottery.  Over 250 volunteers help support the organisation by working in the day hospice, charity shops, administrative offices and at fundraising events as well as driving patients to and from the hospice.
