Story

From New Year resolutions to Bupa 10K

I had never thought about running10 kilometres in my life, not even 5K! It´s really hard to wake up in the morning, in the cold weather, leave your warm bed and just run!

Having a healthy lifestyle was one of my New Year Resolutions (I didn’t want to fail this year again!), so trying to find an option I discovered the 5K nine-week plan, a NHS podcast. I literally started from scratch, running from 1 minute in week 1 to 30 minutes at the end of week 9! It really was an improvement and I was really proud of myself.

Why Bupa 10K?

I didn't mention that my boyfriend was training so hard for the 2013 Manchester Marathon. I wish I could have his commitment. He was training every single day during 16 weeks and he never missed any of his training activities, no matter if the day was sunny or it was dark and snowing.

Trying to help me, he suggested me running 10k as he was constantly receiving updates from the Marathon and related events such as Bupa Manchester. I definitely wasn't ready for a marathon so I thought 10K was a manageable challenge. I decided to take part into the Bupa 10K and running for Freedom from Torture!!!.

Luckily I could experiment the great atmosphere in the 2013 Manchester Marathon. How can I express the feelings I had? Every single runner was so brave! My hands ended so red after clapping in the Finish, without mentioning that I almost lost my voice cheering runners I have never met in my life. Unfortunately, my boyfriend suffered a minor knee injury so he couldn't finish in the time he planned ;( but just the fact of Finishing makes runners Winners!!!!.....  That day was really inspiring!

Freedom From Torture: The bigger Winners!!!

Last week I had the fortune to know and experiment what Freedom from Torture does. They help survivors of torture to rebuild their lives. I was invited to participate for one day in a beautiful music project they have called Stone Flowers. Trough the music survivors express their feelings and it helps them to give happiness to their souls. I was very touched when I heard them singing, arranging and composing, my soul was happy too.

I started this page and I really wish that with your help we can contribute to improve people lives and make them free again.

BUPA 10K 2013 rocks!

The best combination: A sunny day, bank Holiday!, a challenge and a great atmosphere!. I must confess I was so nervous and i didn't want to disappoint my self and the people who supported me but at the same time I was so excited It was my first 10K! I was running with my friend Dobro, so we decided to run in a medium and constant pace. It was so good feeling the energy from the audience, the other runners, the music bands!!! As soon as we pass the firts kilometer we knew we were goin to have so much fun! In the 6thK is was too hot so we had a quick shower! The best jellys I've tried were in the 8thK, I wanted to steal the jelly's bag!
The last kilometer was so hard but I when I saw the Finish line I knew I had to run a little bit more. I made it!
