Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Yes, I am jumping out of a plane, well how could I resist the opportunity of being strapped to a strong, brave chap who's good with a toggle! it is for charity after all and a good local one at that. A team of 8 of us are raising money for Leukemia Busters and include another Ringwood Mum, Kate whose son Rowan was diagnosed with leukaemia in June 2007. On a daily basis the family deal with the many challenges associated with this devastating disease so I figured jumping out of a plane to raise money for much needed research was one way I could help.
The jump has been funded by myself, therefore any money raised through just giving goes straight to the charity.
Leukaemia Busters is a registered charity based at Southampton Hospital whose objective it is to develop new antibody-based magic bullet type treatments for children and adults with currently incurable forms of leukaemia. This is achieved firstly through a high quality research and development programme to produce and evaluate new antibody-based drugs and secondly through clinical trials in patients to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of such newly emerging drugs
The name Leukaemia Busters and its logo carry special meaning, both having been devised by ten year old Simon Flavell before he died with an incurable form of childhood leukaemia in 1990. Simon was a great fan of Ghost Busters and he created the logo himself. The very personal story behind Leukaemia Busters is told in a series of newspaper articles by the charity’s Scientific Director Dr David Flavell (Simon’s father), found on the charity’s website http://www.leukaemiabusters.co.uk/.
