Story

Reading can change a life. It can bring comfort, distraction, entertainment, education, laughter, hope and enjoyment. It's surprising to think how much you read in a day - that newspaper on the train, that magazine during your lunchbreak, the book at bedtime. Without reading, the world can be a very lonely place.

Since my sight has prevented me from reading even large print books, Calibre Audio Library has made my world a better place. Without Calibre, I would not be able to read unabridged books and would be paying around £16.99 for an abridged version. For example, the complete series of Harry Potter books will cost you about £35; for the same in unabridged audio format you would pay £260. Is that fair?

Calibre is an audio book library service for people who cannot access print because of disability. Calibre gives the freedom to read to over 19,000 members, both adults and children. There are over 8000 book titles in the Calibre library, all unabridged recordings, available to members on CD, memory stick or cassette. Calibre’s service is available free of charge to members with no subscription, postage charges or overdue fees. They receive no government funding and therefore rely heavily on voluntary support to raise the £1.4 million a year needed to fund the service.

Please dig deep to help me support such a worthy cause! I'll be swimming 5k (3.6miles) of gruelling, chlorinated pool in the hope that between us we can raise at least £300. Let's help Calibre continue to bring hope and comfort to those who can't read because of their disabilities. Thanks for giving!
