Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My All Hands Volunteers journey has brought me to Tacloban, where the Super Typhoon hit last year. I'm currently working in the Philippines with All
Hands Volunteers, supporting them in clearing debris, digging trenches
and building homes.
The typhoon was so devastating that it destroyed or severely damaged 1.1 million homes. Huge progress has been made and nine months on, the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure nears 50%.
All Hands Volunteers seeks to rehouse those affected with the minimum amount of disruption to their lives: within their own communities. If we can raise just one Philippine Peso for every house that was destroyed, we can build nine homes and strengthen the community there are in.
I'm running in the heat of the
Philippines, which is quite hard when you've spent the entire week clearing rubble, sledge-hammering and
lifting endless amounts of lumber for 8 hours a day (well, actually I work in the office, but I wish I was out in the field doing all those things). I would really like to raise $50 for every kilometer I'm running and a team of over 40 of us are all
running this August 31st to raise enough money for the first house.
Together we're running the equivalent distance of between New York City
and Boston! So, if you'd consider chipping in a few dollars, please
support us and together we'll be able to build a house for an affected
family. Thank you.
