Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Marie, I’m married with two teenage children and I’m in my final year of university studying Adult Nursing. Nothing unusual about that you are probably thinking however, on the 7 July 2011 I was told I had Breast Cancer and would need a bi-lateral mastectomy followed by intense Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.

I do not drink, have NEVER smoked, I have always eaten healthy, kept myself fit using the facilities at the hospital gym and most importantly there is no history of breast cancer in my family.  Although I stay positive and have accepted that I have cancer, I often contemplate why cancer chose me as I obey all the rules to avoid the occurrence of the disease.  The truth is cancer does not care who it invades as it disregards your sex, culture or race. It does not consider the impact it can have on your emotional and physical wellbeing and of that of your loved ones.  Throughout my treatment, all of the staff from the Breast Clinic, Pathology Outpatients and The Pembroke Suite were always on the end of the telephone supporting not only me but also my family. What ever happens in my life, I will never be able to repay the care and compassion that they all afforded me.

On 21 April this year I will be running (or should I say trundling) the London Marathon. PLEASE will you support me and help to raise funds for these three vital components of Salisbury District Hospital. ALL proceeds will be divided between them. It does not matter what amount you donate it all helps. PLEASE will you help me to help them help you.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
