The Violence Against Women project (VAW) is a voluntary service which focuses on gender based abuse and the spectrum of surrounding causes that may be evoked through gender based abuse.  The project aim of VAW is to offer a source of support for women aged 16 and over that supports them to overcome the individual barriers they experience as a result of the abuse they have suffered. The project works with vulnerable women who are fleeing violence, who have been the victims of emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse, including involvement in prostitution and whose chaotic lifestyles make it difficult for them to address any needs identified.

I was fortunate enough to work within the Violence Against Women Project for a number of months during my final practice learning experience. This allowed me to gain a true insight into the vital work undertaken within this project and their tireless efforts to strive to provide a holistic service to women that empowers them to move past challenging times and make positive changes in their lifestyle.
