This is my 20th year at Headway and so what better way to mark those 1000 weeks (OK I'm rounding things a little) by cycling 100000 metres in one day (that's 100 km) as the sponsored challenge on a cycle across Holland from Amsterdam to Eindhoven? What better week to do it than in Action for Brain Injury Week starting 17th May? The money will go to support Headway Leicester in its work in bringing help and hope to people who have suffered disabling brain injuries.

Training has involved cycling along the Tissington trail in freezing fog, cycling into a fierce headwind to Hallaton and cycling part of the Ring of Kerry in Ireland.

My husband Andy will be backing me up. He was expecting to drive behind me in a support car with spare bikes on top and a loudspeaker to encourage me on, but now knows he's going to have to be keeping up with me on his bike.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Headway Leicester and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
