10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be participating in this race which covers approx 160 miles (257 km), over 6 stages in 7 days. We will encounter a mix of terrain including hand pack sand, soft sands, sand dunes, forest trails, shallow river crossings, rocky roads and slot canyons.  The starting line is situated at the north rim of the Grand Canyon with breathtaking vistas at an altitude of 5203ft (1586mt). The finishing line is on the summit of the Pink Cliffs of the Grand Staircase, at an altitude 9030ft (2752mt), with a rewarding view back over the course we have just finished. Look back over the cliffs and enjoy the most amazing panoramic landscape of our journey framed by hoodoos and two billion year old rock formation.

I choose to raise money for Ataxia, which is a devastating disease and very close to my heart. My very close friend's daughter has Friedreich's Ataxia, an inherited disease that causes progresive damage to the nervous sistem, in particular sensory neurons essencial for directing muscle movement of the arms and legs. Resulting in symptoms ranging from gait disturbance, heart disease, diabetes, speech problems and eventually wheelchair bound.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate as much or as little as you can now.

Many thanks.
