2010 Asics British 10K London Run · 11 July 2010 ·

From its foundation in 1876, The Whitechapel Mission continues caring for the poor and homeless of London regardless of race or religion, in their struggle against hunger, poverty, disease, prejudice and exclusion.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in the London 10k event and am supporting the Whitechapel Mission. This is the first event of this type that I have ever taken part in and I am continuing to surprise myself! I would never have imagined that I would ever wear a ‘number’ on my vest – but the actual route has got to be one of the best for spectacular sights in London! I have been working hard at my training and being encouraged by the family – “Of course you can do it mum! Keep on running!”

The Whitechapel Mission is a very special place and is dedicated to providing a lifeline to people of London who struggle each day against homelessness, hunger, poverty and exclusion. Their goal is to help people to help themselves, giving them the confidence they need to become independent, which they do through practical support and advice and by teaching them the life skills they need to succeed. I have worked as a volunteer with a group of friends at the mission for a number of years, which is open for 365 days a year. We usually go during the Christmas period, and have prepared, cooked and served breakfasts for upto 200 people in one session!

To feed, shower and clothe a homeless person for a day costs £5.00.

Just £100 will let us purchase the essentials to fit out their first flat.

£250 would allow us to run the life-skills centre for a day.

£500 would allow us to feed everybody coming to our door for one day.
