Story

Hi,

Our son, Charlie was born last week on the 1st June in the Jessops wing of the Sheffield Hallamshire hospital.

Tragically, Charlie was not breathing when he was born, and although the medical staff were able to resuscitate him and place him on life support, he remained very ill and was admitted to the Special Care Baby Unit for treatment to try and save him. After two days we were told the news that Charlie would not be able to recover and had to take the decision to remove his life support system.

We were heartbroken, but not only only did the Special Care Baby Unit do everything possible to try and save Charlie, they also allowed us to spend some precious time with our son, before he was allowed to pass away with dignity in our arms.

We can't speak highly enough of the unit and it's staff and we want to do our best to support them to thank them for what they did for Charlie. It would also provide us with some comfort to know that we might help them continue to care for other babies and parents in the same situation.

So please make a donation to the Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust from this page. All money raised will go to the Special Care Baby Unit.

Finally, please post a message for Clare and I (and for Charlie). It's too soon for us to talk about what has happened but you can communicate to us via messages on this page. I promise that that we will read them all.
