Having entered the London Marathon, and really enjoyed ?? the last few months of training throught the winter - I am hoping to use to opportunity to raise some money.
My cousin, having spent most of her working life helping forestry development in Africa, is now working for Bees for Development, a charity that promotes bee keeping as a sustainable development activity for some of the poorest communities in the world.
Those of you who have experience of third world countries will have seen the effect that poverty has both on the lives of the people who live in these communities and on their environment. Development support that is both socially and environmentally sustainable is vitally important to the survival of many people.
Below is a precis of Bees for Development's activities, and a link to their website if you would like to know more:
“The philosophy of Bees for Development is to assist people living in poor and remote areas of the world, and to raise awareness about the value of beekeeping for poverty alleviation. We achieve this by;· Maintaining and serving a global beekeeping network
· Compiling and distributing technical information
· Keeping beekeepers up-to-date with knowledge of events and training opportunities
· Putting people in touch with each other to share and learn
· Undertaking research, leading development projects and advocating for policy change”
