MAG (Mines Advisory Group) - D-Day Cycle · 23 June 2013 ·

Every single day, 17 people are killed or injured because of landmines and other explosive weapons. Almost half of all civilian casualties are children. MAG finds and destroys these weapons to save lives and rebuild futures; helping people to grow crops, attend school and build homes.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

All, Unfortunately the event has been postponed until next year, it's probably because everyone is in training for the Olympics! It will take place next year and I am still in training and will be even fitter! I do hope you will continue to sponsor me as your donations are really appreciated.

My daughters boyfriend is now on his first tour in Afghanistan and that really brings the work this charity does into focus.

So please dig deep and donate now.

I don't normally do this sort of thing, but this struck a chord with me for a number of reasons and it all seems to fit. I like cycling, my father was at D-Day landing on Juno beach and purely by chance my daughter's boyfriend is in the same Regiment and has his first tour of Afghanistan in April.

I have said it's in memory of my father, my hero, but it is in memory of all those that served and still serve and particularly those that don't come back.

War is a horrible thing but mines are particular hideous as they are indiscriminant and remain once the conflict is over. Every day across the world 15 people are injured or killed because of mines and the knock on effects on families and communities are long lasting.

Well, firstly, thank you so much to everyone that has donated. Gulp, I have to do it now! I am into training. I have been running most mornings and now that the weather is better and there is light in the moring and evenings I am cycling into work.
