Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April this year my 15 month old nephew, Archie, died suddenly. He was a perfectly healthy, happy and energetic boy who liked nothing more than being boisterous with his older brother, Alfie. The two of them were near inseparable. There were no warnings; no inkling that there was anything wrong with him. My sister and her partner, Liam, checked in on him regularly as they always did when he slept, but that evening they found him lying in his bed, not breathing and not moving.
Later that evening after the paramedics and hospital staff had worked tirelessly to save him, they could do no more. The doctors had concluded that Archie was a victim of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDs), or cot death as it used to be commonly known. The post-mortem concurred with the initial diagnosis.
Experts still don’t fully know why SIDs occurs. There are many theories and great strides have been made to reduce the number of cot deaths by introducing safe sleeping bags, advising the correct way for the baby to sleep and also being aware of the temperature of the room, but none of these have completely eradicated the problem.
I have decided to set myself a challenge in memory of Archie to help raise money for The Lullaby Trust who fund research into SIDs and also help bereaved families with advice and support during, what is a horrendous time for the parents and their families.
Between September and the end of the year, Liam (Archie's Dad) and I will be running 2 half marathons (I am a keen runner, but I have never attempted to run this distance before and neither has Liam). We will also compete (I use that word lightly) in the Givaudan Ashford 10k. The dates of the events are below, if you wish to come along and support us that would be great.
The Folkestone Half-Marathon – Sunday 29 September 2013
Givaudan Ashford 10K – Sunday 13 October 2013
Ashford Half-Marathon – Sunday 1 December 2013
