My story

I am running my first marathon this year for fun, for a good cause and to try to counter the effects of ageing. The training has been torture, I feel older than ever but Friends for Leisure is still a great cause.

Friends for Leisure promotes friendship and leisure activities for children and young people with disabilities and learning difficulties. These are activities that many of our children take for granted, such as going to brownies / cubs, for a coffee with a friend or bowling.

Friends for Leisure recruit and train volunteers who accompany a child or young person to their preferred activities as a one-to-one buddy. With the help of volunteers, they organise weekly bowling sessions, youth groups and other school holiday activities in Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe.

These activities enhance the quality of life of many children and young people in our area and not just those with disabilities and learning difficulties but also those who volunteer.

My updates 1

I have completed the marathon in a very respectable and pleasing time of 3hours 50minutes. The offiicial time may be kinder! Very wet and windy but very exhillarating and really worthwhile for a deserving cause.
