Well now you have got this far you might as well go the distance and pledge some money ;-P
I thought after celebrating my 30th Birthday earlier this year (ok, maybe not the first celebration of this milestone) that it would be fun to cycle the length of the country. Why?......... well, why not. A challenge is always fun and as so many people before have proclaimed cycling Lands End to John O Groats is mostly a pretty fun thing to do. A major pull for riding the UK end 2 end was personal achievement to be honest, however if I can raise some very valuable money for the Brecon Mountain Rescue from your support and generosity then great.
Mountain Rescue teams are voluntary and unfunded so donations from such charitable activities keeps them going and allows kit and vehicles to be properly maintained and replaced. As many of you know Brecon is very close to my heart (I spend a lot of my hours up in those hills) so I'm aware of what a great job the mountain rescue team does.
Mike Summers will be joining me for the 13 day adventure taking place from the 5th June to the 18th June. The route will be about 1000 miles trying to stick to lanes and minor B roads most of the time. Being Mountain Bikers it was too much to ask for us to ditch the full suspension rigs for super lightweight road bikes and lycra so we will be slogging the journey out on some All Mountain Trek full suspension mountain bikes. It would be just too easy on road bikes.
Chains oiled, tyres inflated, panniers packed and water bottles filled......the only thing left to do now is pray to the sun gods and hope the snow will have cleared in the Highlands by June!
Many thanks for donating.
Cheers, Mark
