My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Please take a few minutes to read what has brought on this madness!

I'm passionate about the family. My own family are deeply precious to me, of course.  My beautiful (and long suffering!) wife, Tess and wonderful children, Matt, Sarah, Nathania, Joseph and Jude.  The wider family too.  But I also care deeply about families across our nation.  Big ones, small ones, ordinary and extraordinary, those loving family life and those finding it tough right now, those celebrating the start of family life or new arrivals, those grieving tragic loss.

I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon (in fact a whole team of people are - staff, friends and family) so that more families will continue to be supported through the events, resources, training and free support networks that Care for the Family offers (Marathon running does not come naturally to me so this is definitely not for pleasure!).  Over 100,000 families are supported every year.  In order to continue providing and grow this support to families across the UK Care for the Family has to raise over £3million every year.

Care for the Family is a charity that seeks to support all kinds of families through the ups and downs of everyday family life.  It's quite unique in its approach, supporting families across the social spectrum many of whom are not in crisis situations but simply need support to be a better mum or dad or partner.  I've seen first hand how Care for the Family helps couples build strong marriages that endure and flourish through the toughest of times.  I've seen how parents are supported in the incredible task of raising children - building their confidence and giving them a little toolkit of wisdom for the task ahead.  I've seen families hit by the trauma of loosing a child or being widowed at a young age find a little hope when it seemed all hope was gone.  And it's my privilege to lead this organisation as its Chief Executive.

Care for the Family strives to be generous hearted - with our time, our resources, our support - it's a value that means a lot to us.  Every year we give away hundreds of books and resources to families who can't afford them.  So we've decided to give half of all the money raised to a children's hospice local to us in Cardiff that is doing incredible things for families whose children have life-limiting conditions - Tŷ Hafan.  I've set a challenging overall target for the team - £13,000 - but really hope we'll be able to hand over at least £6,500 to Tŷ Hafan.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.  When you get to the end it will ask you if you want to share your details with Care for the Family.  Please do that so we can give you a proper thank you.

So please dig deep and donate now - every little (and large!) gift will help.

Many, many thanks.

Mark
