Story
In 2006, the WarwickinAfrica (WIA) scheme consisted of 12 student teachers and 5 sponsors; as of 2012, this network boasted 112 teachers, as well as partners ranging from Ernst and Young, to the National University of Singapore. This rapid expansion is a testament to the efficacy of this programme; to date, 120,000 African learners have benefitted from the transformed teaching of Maths and English in South Africa, Ghana and Tanzania. Each year, the support towards the programme has increased considerably, and we hope that this year will deliver the greatest impact yet!
In terms of my role, I will be heading out to Tsosoloso Ya Afrika School in Midrand, Johannesburg. During my stay, I will be working to drive performance through promoting significant and sustainable improvements in the delivery of Maths education.
All money raised through donations goes directly to support the programme, as administrative costs are covered by the university.
The cost-effective model in place has resulted in the cost of teaching a learner in a school to just £11 per month!
