Nottingham "Outlaw" Ironman Triathlon · 8 August 2010

We are East Anglian Air Ambulance. A charity providing lifesaving critical care, 24/7, every day of the year across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Whether by air or road, we’re there for the most seriously ill and injured, when every second counts.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 8th August I am competing in the Nottingham "Outlaw" Ironman distance triathlon.  This is the long one with a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile marathon.  I completed the Austrian Ironman in 2006 and said never again, so here I am ready to go again.

Training has been intense, with training sessions longer and harder than many of the other races I enter, and then go on to do more training the next day!

Yes it is very hard, especially the run when you mind and body have had enough and you see all other competitors struggling along with you.  But as you approach the finish the (temporary) feeling of elation and energy is magical as you realise the achievement you have made.

I choose the Air Ambulance to support as it is local to many of us.  I work close to the hospital and hear it fly over regularly.  My cycle training takes me all around the network of Norfolk roads so I can appreciate what a positive response it has to get to an incident quickly. And it can be for anyone, any time so we all have a vested interest in its upkeep.
