The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I knew this charity event was coming up but i kind of ignored it as i would be away on holiday. Then my work team started talking about it. Now hardly any of them was a regular cyclist and they still wanted to participate. And here i was ignoring it. They are all champions. Not that they know what 5 hours in the saddle will do to them!

Hearing their chat revealed plenty of spirit but not much knowledge so I offered to assist with some training plans and cycling tips and leave it at that. But it just kind of happened that I also signed up. And then i roped in my beautiful wife Jan. To who I am so sorry. It's a great team and they are working hard to fit this preparation in around their busy lives as mothers, fathers, professional workers etc.

So what's my hardship? People think i can breeze the distance and true i occasionally do cycle that distance for pleasure but I will need to train up for it though it's not that simple: My plane gets in from Africa the night before the event about 10pm and i should be home in the Midlands around 1am. Then i have to set off from home again at 4:30am to be back in Windsor to drop my bike off at 6:30am. Work out the maths. And then the 45 miles starts. That's my personal challenge - keeping going on 2 hours sleep.

If i don't raise my target then i don't go and my team miss out on their mechanic "that's me" and their masseur, "me" and tyre fixer, and stretch adviser and nutritionist and singer of songs to help remove the October rain from tired brains.

If you think this is worthy of your donation, i would be grateful of your support.

This will be a chance for me to give back and feel better for getting involved. And you will also feel good that you are involved in making a difference without having to cycle for 5 hours in the October rain. It's a good deal all around!
